How can you use non-SEO tactics for the promotion of your blog?

Are you tired of everybody talking about SEO? Would you like to hear about some other strategies you can use to get some more traction with your writing? Well, that’s what we’re going to explore today. Because – despite what all the articles seem to suggest – there are a lot of non-SEO strategies to get your blog some serious traction.

Here, let’s look at some of the best ones.

Groups

Facebook has them. So does Linkedin. And Reddit is basically built on the concept. And they’re one of the best and easiest ways to get your website serious traffic. Why is that? Two reasons:

  1.  If you find the right group for your content then the people will be far more interested than average users in what you’ve got to say. After all, they’ve joined the group as they’re interested in the topic – so when you write about the topic, they’re going to pay more attention than others do.
  2. Groups neatly circumvent the problem of only having a small audience. Many groups are built up of thousands or tens of thousands of people. If you can get your post out there and get it ranked well, then that means you’ll get some serious traffic.

The problem with groups is that many of them have some pretty serious rules about self-promotion. So be aware of those before you start to indiscriminately self-advertise. Really, the best idea is to build up a presence on these sites. Don’t just push your own content but also give actual advice and ask genuine questions.

In this way, people will notice you’re an active participant and they might let you get away with the occasional bit of self-promotion.

Of course, you can also start your own. It can be a lot of work, but well worth it.

Hashtags

To be clear, they’re not exactly easy to master. But if you do, they can get you a massive audience. The trick is to realize that not all hashtags are equal. Some people will just hashtag random words and hope for the best. That rarely works. For one thing, the word might not have a followership. For another, they might not have the right kind.

For that reason, you need to do some hashtag research. Find out what words are trending, scan through the hashtag to see if the posts actually relate to what you’re talking about and then, when you do, post to them for a while. You might just get lucky and draw in a nice big audience.

There are a lot of platforms that support hashtags:

  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Google+
  • YouTube
  • Tumblr

And so on.

Other bloggers

If you find content on other blogs which is interesting for your audience, share it on your social media. This can be hugely beneficial. For one thing, you’re offering your follower more interesting information, which will make them think more highly of your social media accounts (And pay more attention).

Secondly, as long as you make sure that the other blogging platforms realize that you’re sharing your content (which you can use by tagging them in the post), you’ll significantly raise the chance they’ll explore your site and share something back.

This both gives you access to their network as well as starts you building a beautiful relationship.

Even better, you can cite them in your own content. People always appreciate backlinks to their content after all.

New social media

Most people focus on the established social media brands. That’s a mistake. There are hundreds of social media sites and you should use them. The great thing is that you can often push your content in front of a few a few hundred or even thousand readers with little to no effort by joining one of these sites and trying it out.

The reason is that most of these sites don’t have big advertising bucks coming in and claiming up a huge amount of the bandwidth. Heck, most of them don’t even have the sophisticated algorithms the big brands do to decide what people get to see. That means they’re much easier to bend to your will.

Besides, if it doesn’t work, you can just delete your account and move on. Even if you get banned, what have you really lost? Experiment
Try new things. Stop doing things that don’t work. Be willing to experiment. Sometimes you’ll chance upon something new that works. And even if it does for only a while, if your content is good enough then you’ll have gathered a few more long-term readers.

And in that way you can leverage yourself towards a serious and well-regarded blog where you don’t have to share your content because your readers already do.
